Let's face it, the end of the year moves at a snail's pace. Teachers are done, students are done, and everyone is just trying to make it through the day. So, we curated our go to Fun FOOD read alouds to help you make it to summer break with the perfect standards-based extension activities. End of Year Pizza Party
- Read "Pizza! A Slice of History" by Greg Pizzoli.
- Follow it up with comprehension questions about the history of pizza.
- Decorate pizzas based on the toppings that are typically used in countries around the world.
- Practice descriptive language by decorating pizzas with their favorite toppings and describing them using strong adjectives.
Donut Treat for the Class
- Read "The Hole Story of the Doughnut," by Pat Miller.
- Practice differentiating between fact and fiction, or record fun information about donuts.
- Invent an interesting story that could explain the invention of the donut.
- Decorate a donut to represent their favorite type or describe it using strong adjectives.
- Last minute grade needed? We have comprehension questions as multiple choice (answer key included) or in short answer format.
Bubble Party
- Read "Pop! The Invention of Bubble Gum" by Meghan McCarthy.
- Extend the lesson by connecting important events that led to the invention of Bubble Gum.
- Invite your kiddos to refer to the text to record facts about Bubble Gum.
- Decorate a gum wrapper to reflect a flavor they would like to try, and describe their favorite gum using strong adjectives.
- Answer short response comprehension questions.
